How do you become a cat lady, you ask? By simply owning a cat, of course! The amount of cats owned doesn't matter, and feeding your local stray counts too.

Cat Lady Stickers

The Cattery Cat Shelter has a wide range of merch, perfect for celebrating National Cat Lady Day! Our favourite has to be the sticker that reads "Behind every strong woman is a cat." Truer words have never been written! You can get yours, along with a whole range of cat inspired stickers from our merch shop.

Our stickers have been tested for indoor use and on items such as your cup or tumbler. Just remember, putting our sticker on a mug or travel cup will make them hand wash only, as they (probably) won't survive the dishwasher.

What is National Cat Lady Day?

National Cat Lady Day is celebrated on April 19 each year. It shines a light on the bond between women and their feline companion, while aiming to take back the phrase "cat lady" and its traditionally negative stereotype. 

National Cat Lady Day embraces all strong, independent women, whether they have one cat or ten. This national day is purrfect for challenging the stereotypes still rife within society today, while bringing awareness to cats and cat shelters alike. 

What does being a cat lady mean?

In 2024, being a 'Cat Lady' now "signifies independence, assertiveness, and a refusal to conform to societal stereotypes," making it a badge of honour. 

However, back in 1981, "the term 'Crazy Cat Lady' became popularized [and] used in a derogatory way to refer to single women with cats."  With lovely phrases like this, we can't imagine why people preferred their pets...
