The Cattery offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats. From there, we seek permanent, loving homes for these animals. In addition, our organization promotes public awareness regarding the value of animals and their welfare, the dangers of pet overpopulation, and the benefit of quality human-animal companionship.
We are dedicated to ending pet overpopulation in our community. We continually seek grants and other funding to provide free or deeply discounted spay/neuter services for pet parents that can't afford traditional Veterinarians and for those caring for feral cat colonies. |
OUR STORY |
The Cattery began in early 2007 as a dream discussed over dinner. Later that year, after a lot of hard work and research, the dream blossomed into reality. In the first full year of operation we had 128 adoptions, an average of just over 2 adoptions per week. Currently, we average 18 adoptions per week, over 600 per year! We pride ourselves in not only finding homes for homeless kitties, but also in helping families solve behavior issues or other problems that may result in surrendering their pets. Our commitment goes well beyond the point of adoption as we strive to be a resource for pet parents who have adopted from us and the community as a whole.
In answer to our city's pet over population, The Cattery opened Corpus Christi's first High Quality, High Volume, Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. Since inception we have completed over 45,000 surgeries. Through grant and individual funding, many of these surgeries have been at little to no cost. In September 2015 we added the area's first 33' Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic. With this clinic we are able to go into city neighborhoods where people might not have transportation to a stationary clinic. We have expanded our reach to nearby cities and towns that currently do not have high volume resources. In 2016, we started a thrift shop called Retail Therapy! All merchandise is donated and profits go directly towards helping the cats in our shelter and the patrons of our spay/neuter clinic! |
